In Macau then followed by Xiamen and now across China, I have been fortunate in my career to witness China’s rapid economic growth and to be able to make a small contribution to this transformation. I am particularly fascinated by the changes in our rural areas and pondered on what companies like us could do to contribute to building a prosperous society and healthy urbanization. Urban-rural integration is an irreversible trend, but the business model of building flats and then selling them could no longer meet the needs of a changing society. In time, I came to believe that this had to be replaced by a sustainable development model that combines the best of rural areas and city lives, in which properties serve multiple functions that benefit many stakeholders. That was the genesis of the Powerlong Plaza business model.
My colleagues and I have worked hard to build a new property development model that is suited to the needs of the Chinese market – one that is multi-functional, facilitates the flow of people in a city and creates synergies through the sharing of resources. Powerlong Plaza offers not only residences, but a diverse range of products and services in one location, including shopping, dining, recreation and business. We believe that introducing Powerlong Plaza into fast-growing emerging cities is one of the biggest contributions we can offer to support healthy urbanization.

However, a strong company would still see its own limitations. To achieve business success, our company must work closely with governments and make good use of community resources. We will continue to collaborate closely with local governments to complement and facilitate the economic development and urban planning of different cities. The Powerlong Plaza business model is now a success that will be replicated and rolled out to other parts of China, injecting new energy into new emerging cities and, above all, being one of the forerunners and working hand in hand with people in bringing the benefits of China’s urbanization to local residents that make our cities vibrant and lively.
